Ride the Shetucket River

The Town of Sprague in will resume the wildly popular Ride the Shetucket events for 2019. Once monthly during the warm weather season and depending on the natural water level of the river the Town of Sprague will provide a free shuttle between River Park and Scotland Dam. Participants can put in any time between 10:00 and 12:00.  You can ride the river as many times as you wish during that time frame.  The ride is 4 miles long and takes approximately 2 hours.

Dates for 2019 will be announced here.

Since Ride the Shetucket is dependent on the natural water level, check the Town website prior to the event for any cancellation postings.

Paddlers need to have PFD’s and a distress whistle.

Earth Day Hike a Big Success

The town of Franklin celebrated Earth Day and the town’s Tricentennial on April 22 with a hike through Sprague Land Preserve, much of which is in Franklin.  Over 60 people from all over Eastern Connecticut participated, enjoying the recently reclaimed site of the former Mukluk shooting club. Friends of the Shetucket River Valley appreciate all the efforts that made this event so enjoyable and educational. We’ll do it again sometime!

Trail Work:  April 2019

The popular Fairy Trail on the Preserve is getting some needed trail improvements.  The Fairy Trail is a fun and interesting path to walk as you see the wide range of fairy creations and wood carvings that appear.

Crossing the brook, however, is a tenuous section of the trail.  FoSRV is remedying this by constructing a footbridge to traverse the water.  The bridge should be completed by May.  Happy Hiking!
